The Primary Mathematics Specialist Certificate Program (PMSCP) is designed specifically for teachers of primary grades.

Time Commitment
- Two year program
- Weekly courses during the academic year are held once a week from September to May. Classes will run from approximately 4:15 to 7:00 PM.
- There is also a week long session held each summer of the program during either July or August.

Course Content and Expectations
The coursework consists of 12 units in math and teacher education (pedagogy). It is focused on helping teachers gain a deep understanding of the math taught in primary grades and the skills needed to teach math effectively.
Coursework Leading to the Primary Mathematics Specialist Certificate
Year One - 6 semester units:
TE 600 (3 semester units) - Curriculum Development in Education
Math 596 (1 semester unit) - Reasoning about Place Value and Arithmetic Operations
Math 596 (1 semester unit) - Reasoning about the Structure of the Real Number System
Math 382 (1 semester unit) - Foundations of Algebraic Thinking
Year Two - 6 semester units:
TE 604 (3 semester units) - Advanced Problems in Instruction
Math 596 (1 semester unit) - Reasoning about Geometric Shapes
Math 596 (1 semester unit) - Reasoning about Measurement
Math 381 (1 semester unit) - Foundations of Quantitative Thinking
